How I pondered about purchasing a flat-screen tv (this is our first). Our other tv is a 28" crt sony with built in freeview, and has been exemplary. The sony has been relegated to a play-room, but is still doing a good job. But I digress...
The Toshiba. There is a small, but very good tv repair shop close to where I live (licensed to repair samsung, sony, toshiba, panasonic, lg etc). I asked for an opinion about which tv, and was told toshiba regza. Hmm.
Went down to the large retailers, and checked out the tellys. 40"? 42"? 50hz, 100, 200, 600hz? Plasma or LCD? LCD or LED? freeview hd built in or just ready? how about 3D tv's?? In the retailers that I went to, the tv's were all connected to bluray players and all pictures looked... superb! hmmm. I know, write a specification of what I want.
Flat screen, probably lcd, 40-42 inch, build in freeview and freeviewHD (currently 3 channels but will soon be more). We'll probably replace the tv before it breaks down (how long do people keep tv's for these days??), so don't want to spend too much. Mostly to be used for watching movies, so refresh rate not too important. By the way, we don't have sky (or skyHD).
Bought the toshiba, for [...] from Amazon - a very cheap price (particularly as it has built in freeviewHD). Picture is brilliant, although there is just a little motion blur due to the 50hz refresh rate. Sound is good at fairly low volume, but does have a fuzzyness at higher volumes - but the sound is generally fine. There are myriads of connectors at the back (inc ethernet), and loads of set-up options so the tv is fairly future-proof.
Overall, a good bargain buy([...]!!!). I bought it and would recommend. FreeviewHD is spot-on, hope there's more soon.
